Tips To Prevent Your Pipes From Freezing During The Winter

Frigid temperatures upon us. Don’t let frozen pipes seriously damage your home! Here are some tips to make sure your pipes don’t freeze:

Keep Water Flowing

Allow a slow trickle of water to flow from faucets connected to exposed pipes. Moving water is less likely to freeze.

Insulate Your Pipes

Wrap exposed pipes in foam pipe insulation or heat tape, especially those in unheated areas like crawl spaces or attics.

Look For Cracks and Leaks

Inspect areas around pipes for drafts and seal cracks or gaps in walls, floors and foundations to prevent cold air from reaching them.

Set Your Thermostat

Keep your home’s thermostat at a consistent temperature day and night. Avoid letting the indoor temperature drop below 55°F.

Open Cabinet Doors

Open the cabinet doors under your sinks in kitchens and bathrooms to allow warm air to circulate around the pipes.
