When the AC quits in a Texas August, you need someone out today, not Thursday. CR Plumbing, Air & Electric repairs, replaces and installs air conditioning systems across DFW, including ductless mini-splits for the rooms your ducts never reached. You’ll get a factory-trained tech, a price before we start and an honest answer on whether to repair or replace.
Breakdowns don't wait for a convenient moment. Call early and we'll do our best to have cold air back the same day.
We size replacements with a Manual J load calculation, not a rule of thumb. An oversized unit short-cycles and never pulls the humidity out.
Our techs are trained on the equipment they work on, which keeps your manufacturer's warranty intact and gets the repair right the first time.
A new system is a real expense. We'll point you to the utility rebates you qualify for and handle the paperwork.
An AC here works harder than almost anywhere else. From June through September it runs most of the day, and attic equipment sits in 130-degree heat while it does. That’s why systems that would last 20 years up north give out at 12 to 15 here, and why the units that fail usually fail in the worst week of the year.
Most of what we see comes down to a handful of things: a failed capacitor, a dirty or iced-up coil, low refrigerant from a leak, a clogged condensate drain backing water into the attic, or a system that was never the right size for the house. We diagnose before we quote, so you’re not paying for parts that weren’t the problem.
We handle repairs, replacements and new installs, plus ductless mini-splits for garages, additions and sunrooms. Cooling is one part of what we do, alongside heating, indoor air quality and the rest of our HVAC services.
Central AC and heat pump installs, sized with a load calculation for your actual house.
Ductless cooling and heating for garages, additions, sunrooms and any room the ducts can’t reach.
Fast diagnosis when it quits, plus spring tune-ups that keep it from quitting in the first place.
Fast fixes, honest advice and no surprise line items. Here’s what DFW homeowners say.

Warm air from the vents is the obvious one. The quieter signs: the unit runs all day and never reaches the thermostat setting, the house feels clammy even when it’s cool, you hear grinding or a hard click when it tries to start, ice forms on the refrigerant line, or there’s water around the air handler. That last one is usually a clogged condensate drain, and in an attic install it can soak a ceiling before anyone notices. A sudden jump in the electric bill with no change in habits counts too.
We start with a diagnosis, not a quote. Common fixes are a failed capacitor or contactor, a burned-out fan motor, a dirty coil, a clogged drain line, a bad thermostat or a refrigerant leak. Refrigerant deserves a note: if a tech wants to “top it off” without finding the leak, that’s a temporary fix. It’ll leak out again. We find the leak and tell you what repairing it costs against replacing the system. More on our AC repair and maintenance page.
If you have no cooling at all in the middle of a Texas summer, call (940) 370-5663. While you wait, switch the thermostat to off (not just up) so a frozen coil can thaw, check that the breaker hasn’t tripped, and pull the filter to see if it’s choked with dust. Those three things solve a surprising number of calls.
People ask what company handles a full cooling system installation, and this is it: we size the system, pull the permit, remove the old equipment, set the new indoor and outdoor units, connect the refrigerant lines, make the electrical connections, check the ducts and commission the system before we leave.
Sizing is where most installs go wrong. An oversized AC cools fast, shuts off and never runs long enough to pull humidity out, so the house feels cold and clammy. We run a Manual J load calculation based on your square footage, windows, insulation and orientation. See our AC installation page for more.
Mini-splits cool and heat a single space without ductwork, so they’re the fix for a converted garage, an addition, a sunroom or the upstairs bonus room that’s always 10 degrees warmer. An indoor unit mounts on the wall, an outdoor condenser sits outside, and a small line set connects them. Multi-zone setups run several indoor heads off one condenser. Details on our mini-split installation page.
| What’s going on | Usually |
|---|---|
| Under 10 years old, one failed part like a capacitor or fan motor | Repair |
| 10 to 15 years old, repairs two summers running | Replace |
| Still uses R-22 refrigerant and needs a major repair | Replace |
| Compressor failed on a system out of warranty | Replace |
| Cools fine but the house is humid or rooms are uneven | Check ducts and sizing before replacing anything |
| Runs constantly and the bill keeps climbing | Get it diagnosed, then decide |
When it’s a close call, we’ll give you both numbers.
A spring tune-up is the cheapest thing you’ll do for your AC. We clean the coils, check refrigerant pressure, test the capacitor, clear the condensate drain, tighten electrical connections and check airflow. Most of the no-cool calls we get in July trace back to something a tune-up in April would have caught. Change your filter every one to three months and keep the outdoor unit clear of grass and shrubs.
We handle AC repair and installation from our base in Argyle to Krum, Denton, Flower Mound, Highland Village, Cross Roads, Copper Canyon and Hickory Creek. We also work in Fort Worth, Keller, Colleyville, Southlake, Lewisville, The Colony, Coppell and Grapevine. The full list is on our service areas page.
Age and repair history decide it. Under 10 years old with one failed part is usually a repair. Past 12, with repairs in back-to-back summers, replacement is usually the better money. A failed compressor out of warranty, or a system still running R-22, almost always means replace. The table above shows how we call it.
Because bigger isn’t better. An oversized unit cools the air fast, shuts off, and never runs long enough to pull humidity out. You end up with a cold, clammy house and a compressor that short-cycles itself to an early death. A Manual J calculation sizes the system to your actual house.
Most manufacturers require professional installation to keep the warranty valid, and a system installed wrong (bad line set, poor airflow, wrong refrigerant charge) underperforms for its whole life. Factory-trained techs also know the specific quirks of the equipment they’re working on.
Usually. Older systems run at much lower efficiency than current ones, and the difference shows most in a DFW summer when the unit runs all day. How much you save depends on what you’re replacing and how well the ducts move air.
Utility rebates come and go, so we’ll check what’s active when you’re buying and handle the paperwork.

Yes. They’re the usual answer for garages, additions, sunrooms and rooms the ducts don’t reach. See our mini-split installation page.
Often the system is oversized, so it cools quickly and shuts off before it can dehumidify. It can also be a dirty coil or a duct problem. It’s worth diagnosing, since a humid house feels warmer than it is and tempts you to drop the thermostat further.
